Abstract

Women have historically lived very different lives to men, and consequently, their pattern of crime and criminality has some unique features (see e.g. Heidensohn and Silvestri, 2012). For instance, the numbers of women engaging in criminal activity differs substantially from the numbers of men. In addition, some argue that male and female experiences of criminal justice and penality are different.
