Abstract

The effects of Extremely Low Frequency Electromagnetic Fields (ELFMF, 50 Hz,
5 mT) and/or X-rays on the expression of the BRCA1, p21, c-Myc, c-Jun and c-Fos proteins were investigated in human breast adenocarcinoma MCF-7 cells. A transient increase of c-Jun and c-Fos was observed after either ionizing radiation or magnetic field exposure. We found that ELFMF increased the X-ray-induced expression of BRCA1, p21 and c-Myc. These findings demonstrate that ELFMF can modify gene expression.
