Abstract

Despite increasing attention being paid to the circular economy practices (CEPs) that enable firms to improve sustainable logistics performance (SLP), the existing research lacks empirical evidence from larger surveys and the development of a framework that investigates the relationships between CEPs and SLP in logistics practices. This research aims to propose and measure a wider CEPs and SLP framework. This research employs a two-stage method to develop a model and utilise structural equation modelling of survey data from a sample of Irish logistics firms. The results indicate that reverse logistics and remanufacturing are the two key CEPs. The findings support the significance of CEPs in improving SLP. Firm size and revenue are crucial factors for understanding the relationship between weak and strong-performing firms in CEPs and SLP. By analysing the relationship between CEPs and SLP, this research provides theoretical and practical knowledge on the SLP required to support relevant management issues.
