Abstract

We studied the excitation of whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in a spherical micro resonator by a tapered optical fiber coupled under different excitation conditions. Coupling with the fiber taper positioned at the equator of the microsphere produced the highest quality spectrum in comparison with other positions.
