Semi-autonomous Vehicles for Indian Roads

    Abstract

In the world of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the concept of autonomous vehicles is not new. However, this concept is up for debate as to whether it is responsible to have autonomous vehicles on public roads. This may be due to incompetence in behavioural decision-making carried out by the machine. Especially considering developing countries like India, where the roads are not only used by humans and vehicles but are also home to stray animals, the introduction of autonomous vehicles is questionable. However, semi-autonomous vehicles control the driver while making driving easier, which may work in the Indian scenario. This paper follows a semi-autonomous vehicle design project and suggests conceptual designs with vehicle form explorations to replace non-autonomous cars in the public transport sector. The future scope of the concept also branches out to assist in reducing the crime rate, increasing the safety of passengers, and simplifying the learning curve for amateur drivers.
