Representing interaction knowledge and capability demands in models of Assistive Technology Systems

Abstract

Objective: To present a representation scheme for representing interaction knowledge in Assistive Technology Systems. Main Content: Activity is at the heart of any Assistive Technology system. The interaction of the agent of the activity with domain objects plays a significant role in the performance of that activity. These objects place capability demands on the agent. Often the greatest barriers to participation, lie in the challenges inherent in these capability demands. One role of AT is to change the balance between these capability demands and the capacities of the agent, whether by modifying interaction demands in a favourable way or by enhancing or establishing agent capacities. A key challenge when modeling these systems is to represent this interaction knowledge. This paper proposes an object representation scheme which embodies interaction knowledge. Results and Outcomes: A representation scheme is -proposed which is based on smart knowledge techniques in Games for interaction representation. This scheme also uses the International Classification of Functioning.
