title = "Organizational support for human performance: towards a human factors capability self-assessment tool",
abstract = "Human factors play a critical role in system safety and overall performance, with human error frequently featuring as a causal factor in major accidents across diverse domains. The human factors discipline aims to apply theoretical principles, data and methods to optimize human well-being and overall system performance. The application of this knowledge allows organizations to minimize the opportunity for human errors resulting in catastrophic consequences and maximize the positive role of humans in the system. However, human factors is still not widely applied and there is still a need to engage and educate senior stakeholders in the application of human factors within their organization in order to realize its potential benefits. This work aims to develop a high level framework of key factors to be managed by the organization to optimize human performance and develop a self-assessment tool allowing organizations to identify their strengths and weaknesses in this area.",
