Abstract

To face global warming and fossils fuels depletion, the use of renewable energy is becoming mandatory to satisfy the energy demand that increases further each year. For instance, photovoltaic systems are widely used thanks to their high performance and small cost. The photovoltaic (PV) systems can be connected to the grid for night supply or standalone systems with storage devices like batteries. To study and analyze the power produced by PV systems in different weather conditions, several mathematical models have been used in the MATLAB environment. In this paper, the modeling of each element of the photovoltaic system has been done including a PV module, a Boost Converter, a load, and a MPPT to operate the PV system in high efficiency in different weather conditions and scenarios. Moreover, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) was investigated in this work using the Perturb and Observe (P&O) approach. The newly optimized P&O has been compared to an optimized P&O in several cases. The results show that our P&O protocol is very close to the optimized P&O for the solar irradiance variation scenario but more suitable and efficient for the load variation scenario.
