Abstract
A system has been developed for managing agricultural grants in Ireland. It extends Oracle Spatial databases by adding web-based spatial information management functionality and does not require the use of complex proprietary application specific software to differentiate itself from traditional GIS. The system serves 125,000 farmers for a total of 700,000 field parcels. The authors show the potentialities of the technology as developed for the Irish Department of Agriculture.
