title = "Low-Profile Metasurface Dipole Antenna on Electromagnetic Band Gap Ground Plane",
abstract = "The performance of a metasurface dipole antenna on an electromagnetic band gap and perfect electric conductor ground plane is studied for 4G and 5G cellular 65° sector base station applications. The dipole provides a 3-dB beamwidth stability and front-to-back ratio improvement across the band of interest for both azimuth and elevation planes compared to a perfect electric conductor ground plane. A 14 dB impedance bandwidth of 52\% in the frequency range of 1.7–2.9 GHz is achieved. The isolation is better than 40 dB and the stable radiation patterns have an average boresight gain of 8.3 dBi. The overall antenna size is 0.42 λ × 0.42 λ × 0.14 λ over a 0.62 λ × 0.62 λ ground plane.",
