Library Orientation Tours as a Teaching & Learning Activity at TU Dublin

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

TU Dublin Library Services offered Library orientation worksheets across all five of our campus locations this past academic term (Autumn 2024). Offered alongside a library orientation tour and supplemental video content where needed, the worksheets are a self-paced learning tool that encourages autonomous and peer-to-peer learning.

This presentation will discuss the collaborative design, development, and delivery process between the Teaching and Learning team and academic faculty across the university to design these student-focused worksheets which would familiarise users with the physical and digital resources that the library provides, while encouraging engagement with library staff as an approachable source of help.

Future plans for developing orientation tours and the worksheets further include: adapting for the new Academic Hub; partnering with more faculty members across our five campuses and creating different kinds of worksheets for various groups (ie. research students, prospective students etc.); creating more multimodal worksheet content in collaboration with our colleagues in Digital Services. By doing so Library Services hopes to continue to align with UDL principles and TU Dublin's 2024 University Education Model.
