Abstract

Keynote speaker at a 1-day conference on 20 June 2025 hosted and organised by the Faculty of Science in the University of Lisbon and Pais 21, Portugal. Title of conference: "Ensino Superior Alunos Com Dificuldades Intelectuais E Desenvolimentais" (Cycle of Reflections - Higher Education Students with Intellectual and Developmental Difficulties). Title of talk: "Including People with Intellectual Disability in Higher Education". This talk involved an account of the Certificate in Independent Living Skills (Pathways Together) programme delivered in TU Dublin and the Arts Science and Inclusive Applied Practice programme delivered in Trinity College Dublin's Centre for People with Intellectual Disability. The 1-hour talk also covered the development of an inclusive education programme, reasons for and benefits of higher education for people with intellectual disability and the barriers to inclusion for this marginalised group despite ratification of the UNCRPD.
