Abstract
The role of the Intelligent Network (IN) in a mega-heterogeneous network is studied. Such a network is built up using a mixture of many different technologies, both for switching user-to-user information and for signalling. One area where IN may learn from other networks is in the interaction between service and user. Separation of service-to-user from service-to-network also makes IN less dependent on the network-protocols used in the underlying switching network. Results revealed that other networks should learn that it is to the service-provider's benefit to have intelligence in the network. A good concept is required for future versions of IN to address the service-to-user concern.
