Abstract

The effect of a planar reflector on the pulse performance of a small UWB planar monopole is described. Full electromagnetic simulations were performed and their accuracy was validated through measurements. The results show that the effect of a planar reflector is highly dependent on the distance between the reflector and the antenna. The antenna system was assessed in terms of frequency domain performance and fidelity factor. The manufactured antenna exhibits excellent time domain performance in free space and similar performance for short reflector-antenna separation with a fidelity factor greater than 99% at the recorded orientation.
