Abstract
Dida’s Reminiscence is a piece that reflects on memory and its fragility.
The piece includes references to one of Paganini’s guitar works titled "Minuetto che va chiamando Dida" ("Minuet that repeatedly calls out 'Dida'"). Dida was a mysterious figure to whom Paganini dedicated several pieces, and there is much speculation about her true identity. In the Minuet, the guitar calls out the name "Dida" using a descending third interval.
This piece is not about calling out a name, but about the attempt to remember. Lost memories, fragmented images and emotions emerge, only to quickly fade away.
Dedicated to Andrea De Vitis
First performance 25 May 2018, Festival Paganini - Parma, Italy
