Abstract

A tunable compact printed monopole antenna for digital video broadcast handheld terminals systems is presented. The antenna comprises a two segment inductor-loaded monopole strip connected to a plate on the opposite side of the substrate. By appropriate adjustment of inductor values the working frequency is shifted from 915 MHz to 470 MHz. The dimensions of the proposed monopole antenna can be significantly reduced by over 56% in comparison with the conventional monopole antenna and its dimension is 24 mm x 120 mm. The radiation patterns are omnidirectional. The peak gains of the proposed monopole antenna at 470 MHz, 600 MHz and 860MHz are -1.5dBi, 0.74dBi, 2.0 dBi respectively.
