Abstract

This chapter which examines the Botanical Legacy of Bective Abbey, uncovers traces of medieval farming associated with the 12th century Cistercian religious community in Co Meath. Townland areas, fieldscape and flora studies were conducted during 2011 and 2012. Flora associated with archaeophyte groups were recorded. These are alien flora species that naturalised in Ireland prior to 1500, making them perfect indicator species for this study.
