Abstract
Urban living, particularly in small one-BHK apartments, poses pervasive challenges for indoor gardening. These challenges include limited space, intricate plant care needs, resource inefficiencies, plant species recognition hurdles, waste minimisation, sustainability aspirations, and a lack of gardening knowledge. The challenges are intensified by the lack of user-friendly tools and technology tailored for indoor gardening. This research presents a comprehensive conceptual development approach to address these challenges, employing a systematic review of literature and user surveys to identify key challenges faced by urban residents in small living spaces. Additionally, user surveys and interviews provide valuable insights into specific needs and preferences, contributing to the formulation of targeted solutions. Central to this research is the proposition of an integrated fogponics framework, featuring the innovative hexagon pod system design from Biologically Inspired Design (BID). This framework enhances spatial efficiency while providing a modular and customizable approach to indoor gardening. By focusing on sustainability, this framework aims to significantly enhance indoor gardening in compact spaces by advocating for a harmonious incorporation of plants within urban settings.
