    Abstract

The World Health Organisation states that around 116 million women worldwide are affected by Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It is a lifestyle disorder which affects the functioning of the ovaries, leading to various abnormalities in a woman’s body. The exact aetiology of PCOS is unknown, but genetics and environmental factors play a major role in developing the disorder. It is increasingly common among reproductive-aged women in urban India. This endocrine, metabolic, and psychological disorder, if not treated at an early stage, can have a permanent and irreversible impact on a woman’s well-being, leading to chronic health problems such as infertility, obesity, diabetes, and cancer. A survey of 22 women is conducted to understand PCOS and its related physiological and psychological impacts. The results are analysed, and a systemic design solution is proposed using TRIZ and systems thinking. The proposed solution comprises a smart health tracker linked to a companion smartphone app. The smart health tracker monitors activity levels, sleep patterns, fluid intake, blood glucose levels, calorie intake, etc., to effectively manage symptoms. The companion app brings PCOS women on a single platform, creating a community of sisterhood to encourage each other to begin their journey to recovery. This app also features support groups, diagnostic PCOS tests, medical history tracking, customised programs, e-consultation, and mental health counselling. This design solution empowers women to adopt knowledge, discipline, and a sustainable approach to managing PCOS.
