Abstract
This chapter examines two frameworks for Community Engagement Assessment and Action Planning (TEFCE and SHEFCE) to demonstrate how such tools can be used to enhance university collaboration with non-mainstream businesses, such as social enterprises and minority-owned businesses. The key insights derived from piloting this process within the single case study context of Technological University Dublin will be presented. Specifically, this chapter will highlight how the TEFCE process can be applied to establish the existence of current good practices as well as identifying any factors that might threaten the institutional spread or sustainability of community engagement at the university. Furthermore, the SHEFCE process will be discussed in relation to establishing an action plan that safeguards and sustains existing practices and establishes opportunities for further partnership. Finally, key considerations and practical learnings are offered to universities that intend to apply one or both of these processes for community engagement assessment and action planning.
