Abstract

This paper presents a compact fully metallic Uda-Yagi monopole antenna for millimetre-wave on-body applications operating at 24 GHz. The antenna occupies a volume of 15 × 12 × 4.3 mm3(1.15 ?0 × 0.92 ?0 × 0.33 ?0) and consists of a metallic wall reflector and three parasitic directors to achieve end-fire radiation. Performance is evaluated in free space and on a forearm phantom. The antenna exhibits a 1.5 GHz impedance bandwidth (23.1-24.6 GHz), 8 dBi end-fire gain, and 94% radiation efficiency in free space. When placed on forearm phantom, gain and efficiency reduce to 1.7 dBi and 40%, respectively, due to tissue absorption. Simulated and measured results show good agreement, validating the proposed design.
