Description
Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. designs and manufactures Ship to Shore gantry cranes used for lifting containers from shipping vessels to the quayside. These cranes have a lifting boom supported by articulated steel arms connected through steel pins and bushings. These pins are crucial as they must endure the stresses and forces throughout the crane's design life of over twenty years.
This research aimed to identify suitable thermally sprayed coatings for carbon steel pins intended for use in composite material (polymer) bushings. This enhancement was focused on the highly loaded and stressed parts of the port crane structure.
