RSA - Provision of a case study review of traffic reduction mechanisms in urban areas

    Project Details

    Description

The Road Safety Authority conducted research to address Action 44 of the Government’s Road Safety Strategy (2021-2030). This strategy aimed to reduce deaths and serious injuries by 2024. Action 44 directed the study of countries that adopted mechanisms to reduce traffic, such as car-free streets in urban areas, to enhance the safety of other road users. The project also considered other government programs focused on decarbonisation, climate action, and sustainability.

The research consisted of a case study of selected cities or metropolitan areas that had taken steps to reduce motorized traffic. The study focused on the processes of implementing these policies and considered outcomes and evaluations where available. Recommendations were provided for consideration in Ireland.
