Leica Multimodal Imaging Platform

Project Details

Description

The Leica Multimodal Imaging Platform provided state-of-the-art capabilities to image objects and features at a scale of hundreds of nanometers, allowing monitoring of physical, chemical, and biological processes in real time within controlled environments.

This platform uniquely combined microscopic imaging with novel chemically specific analysis methodologies, based on Raman spectroscopy—a field in which TU Dublin established nationally leading expertise since 1997. By incorporating multiple modes of monitoring the interaction of light with materials, it demonstrated versatility and broad applicability.

The platform supported research across various fields and areas of national research priority, including:

- Medical diagnostics and therapeutics

- Food technologies

- Advanced materials and process development

It enhanced the ability to support indigenous industry, fostered national and international collaborations in spectroscopic microscopy, and contributed to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
