Ethics Ecology in Technological Education

Project Details

Description

There was an urgent need for twenty-first-century education to address the complex problems of the climate crisis and questions of technological development. A radical new approach was required, and teaching Ethics and Ecology was believed to provide students with the necessary skills to solve these challenges.

In this context, Ethics was understood as a form of practice with collective implications. The ethical relationship to others became prominent during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting that individual actions have a direct impact on the collective good. The ecological and ethical questions became intertwined.

Traditionally, applied ethics was not sufficient to address the challenges posed by the relationship between technological development and ecology. Applying existing ethical frameworks did not yield the desired results, often reducing ethics to a component of engineering programs. There was a pressing need to develop specific methodologies for Ethics and Ecology within the education system for all higher education students.
