Personal profile
Research Interests
Prior to joining DIT, I held various roles within the pharmaceutical industry including:
- Instrument validation specialist with responsibility for the qualification of a large suite of instrumentation in an OSD testing laboratory
- Systems analytical chemist working across API and OSD facilities with responsibility for non-routine testing, method transfers, method development etc.
- Laboratory Coordinator with responsibility for release of OSD finished product in addition to raw materials, excipients, components etc.
Previous research has been focused on novel, fundamental investigations into metal sequestration by seaweeds and other marine based products. This process, known as biosorption, has significant environmental importance due to the ability of these materials to bind and detoxify toxic heavy metals. It also presents positive economic implications through exploitation of our natural resources as biosorption products and the potential to recover precious metals.
