Previous research has been focused on novel, fundamental investigations into metal sequestration by seaweeds and other marine based products. This process, known as biosorption, has significant environmental importance due to the ability of these materials to bind and detoxify toxic heavy metals. It also presents positive economic implications through exploitation of our natural resources as biosorption products and the potential to recover precious metals.
