Research interests

Stephen Tiernan has been a lecturer and researcher at TU Dublin  (formerly Institute of Technology Tallaght) since 2000. In the last 15 years he has focused his research interests on Bioengineering, in particular spinal research and concussion. His current work involves measuring and simulating head impacts in contact sports. He is also involved in orthopedic research on spinal deformaties and fractures. Prior to joining the college in Tallaght; he lectured in Dundalk Institute of Technology, worked with University College Dublin on research and development projects for SME’s in Ireland and worked as a structures test engineer with British Aerospace.
