Professional Information

Sean is currently a Post Doctoral Researcher on the EPA funded “Sow What?” project, a research collaboration between TU Dublin and the UCD Agri-Mental Health Group (Joint PIs - Nigel Vahey & Professor Louise McHugh).  Using focus groups and one-to-one interviews with farmers, agricultural advisors and policymakers, Sean collects insights into the dilemmas that farmers currently face in their daily lives in dealing with climate sustainability and related policy, including the actors through which they are communicated. These insights are supported by a national farm survey and are beings used to develop a communication toolkit to be used by advisors and policymakers to improve how they interact and work with farmers.  Sean has also worked on a number of farming focused DAFM funded research projects in the last 2 years which have generated insights into farmer mental health, succession, career accessibility and development. 

His 12 years of academic teaching and mentoring experience, alongside seven years operating Ireland’s only Human Fear Laboratory in Maynooth University, support his capacity to explore psychological, educational, and social factors influencing career paths, progression and change, as well as the design and testing of behavioural-economic theory-based interventions to support behaviour change.  

His experience producing project funder evaluation reports, publications, and professional presentations to regularly promotes his ability to deliver high-quality research outputs.

Sean also benefits from having almost 40 years of business sector experience as a business owner in both the contsruction and educational sectors.  Collectively, Sean’s interdisciplinary experience ensures strong leadership, high level of stakeholder engagement, methodological rigour, and real-world credibility for his research initiatives.

Sean's teaching experience at both undergraduate and Master's level include: Introduction to Research Methods; Behavioural Psychology; Individual Differences; Advanced Social Psychology; Introduction to Statistics; Introduction to Criminal Psychology; Lifespan Development; Psychometrics and Individual Differences; Leadership, Motivation and Positive Psychology.

Sean also has programme design and certification experience with B.A. (Hons) in Arts & Humanities, B.A. (Hons) Psychology with Carlow College, St. Patrick’s; M.A. in Organisational Psychology with Dublin Business School, launched September 2022; B.A. in Psychological Studies: Maynooth University,
