Professional Information

Dr. Mikhail Filatov received his PhD degree at Moscow State University in 2008 in the field of organic synthesis. He further conducted postdoctoral research in the University of Burgundy (2009) and Max Planck Institute (2010-2014), investigating new functional dyes for photonic applications. In 2015 he was awarded a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship to perform research in the field of photomedicine at Trinity College Dublin. He joined TU Dublin as a faculty member in 2017. Dr. Filatov's current research combines organic chemistry and photophysics and is targeted on the development of multichromophoric molecules and materials with programmed optical properties. He works with porphyrins, dipyrrins, BODIPYs, and related pyrrolic dyes, which have unique optical properties. His main interest is tuning dyes' optical properties to achieve superior performance in applications relying on fluorescence and triplet excited state formation such as photodynamic therapy, triplet-triplet annihilation photon upconversion and photocatalysis. He has co-authored >40 peer-review research papers and participated in 4 patents.
