Professional Information

Michael Conlon received the degree of DipEE/BSc from Kevin Street College of Technology (DIT) in 1982. He obtained a MEngSc from the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) in 1984 and a PhD in 1987. The topic of the PhD research thesis was the electromagnetic transient modeling and analysis of power transformer windings. Between 1987 and 1999 he worked at the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering, Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He held positions as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Acting Director of the Centre for Electrical Power Engineering at Monash University. In 1993 he was a visiting academic at the Institute for Electrical Power Systems and Power Economics, RWTH, Aachen, Germany. Between 1999 and 2002, he was manager, Energy Forecasting and Reliability with the Victorian Energy Networks Corporation (VENCorp) in Melbourne, Australia. He joined the School of Electrical Engineering Systems, DIT in 2002 and was Head, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering since 2014. He has been Professor Emeritus since 2025.
