Professional Information

Max Ammann is Professor of Antennas & Propagation in Technological University Dublin’s School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering and is director of the Antennas & High-Frequency Research Centre.  He became a Chartered Engineer in 1986 and received his PhD in antennas and propagation from Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland.   His research interests broadly include electromagnetic theory, antenna miniaturization for UWB applications, metamaterials, antennas for medical devices, antenna integration with photovoltaic systems and mmWave technologies.

He has served as an expert to industry on various antenna technologies in the communications, medical, aviation and electronic security sectors in Ireland and abroad. He has more than 200 peer-reviewed papers published in journals and international conferences. Dr Ammann’s team received 14 best paper awards at international conferences on Antennas and Propagation and seven commercialisation awards.

He is a fellow of the IEEE and acted as Associate Editor for the IEEE Antennas & Wireless Propagation Letters (2012-2018). As a member of the IEEE International Committee for Electromagnetic Safety, he participated in the revision of the IEEE Std. C95.1, 2005 standard for Safety Levels with Respect to Human Exposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields, 3 kHz to 300 GHz.  He has co-chaired IWAT2022 in Dublin and various workshops on antennas and related technologies.
