Dr. Marek Rebow holds a PhD (2001) and MSc (1990) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland. He has been working in the academic research and development environment for more than 30 years and was appointed as a Head of Research for the Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment at the Technological University Dublin in 2006. His academic research experience includes the following appointments; a research fellow at University College Dublin within the project founded by European Space Agency and European Commission, a visiting research scientist at the University of Michigan and a fellowship at the Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan. His extensive research interests span thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, validation of mathematical and numerical models, materials science, thermal energy storage materials & technologies, sustainable energy systems, and engineering education.
He has a proven academic track record of supervising six PhD students (two as a lead supervisor) and five MSc projects in the Energy Retrofit Technology and Building Performance Programme, examining 4 MEng by Research and 4 PhD theses, publishing over 40 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and three books & a book chapter, reviewing papers submitted to high IF peer-reviewed journals, acting as a reviewer for research funding agencies and co-inventing a patented thermal energy storage technology.
He has experience of working within multi-international and multi-disciplinary demanding environments through projects in various international universities and two space agencies. As a research leader and manager he was able to develop and manage an efficient, effective and comprehensive framework and processes to support a culture of research, to develop and sustain nationally & internationally all levels of partnerships in particular with strategic partners, to contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans, research strategies and policies to fulfil institution’s vision and mission, to grow and sustain relationships with industry (MNCs and SMEs), sponsors, communities, and other stakeholders, to foster development of transdisciplinary research projects, and to support proposals’ development and submission for major grants.
