BIOGRAPHY 1992 - 2000: Site Engineer on major road and marine infrastructure projects. Subsequently worked in a major consultancy engineering practice managing the design, construction and commissioning of highway schemes, water, wastewater and waste managment projects. 2000 - 2005: Lecturer in the School of Civil & Building Services Engineering, Dublin Institute of Technology. 2005 - 2009: International Development - worked as a project manager in Asia & Africa for a variety of international development organisations. Specific projects included post disaster recovery and reconstruction programs (post 2004 tsunami) and water, sanitation, education and health infrastructure projects in Niger, Sierra Leone and Nepal. 2010 - present: Lecturer & Principal Researcher in the Development Technology Research Group (DTC) supported by the School of Civil & Building Services Engineering, Dublin Institute of Technology. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS 1992: Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) 1st Class Hons, University College Galway 1993: Diploma in Applied Modelling of Groundwater Pollution, IHE, Delft. 1994: Masters of Engineering Science Degree, University College Galway RESEARCH INTERESTS Core research interests include: Appropriate technology in water, sanitation & health infrastructure Rainwater harvesting Natural wastewater treatment and reuse systems Solar water disinfection systems Low cost water testing methodology Innovative community based technology transfer programs PUBLICATIONS Liam has published on water and environmental issues in a variety of international peer reviewed journals including the Water and Environmental Journal of the Chartered Insitute of Water & Environmental Management (CIWEM), the Water Practice & Technology Journal of the International Water Association (IWA). Liam has alsopublished widely in national and international non peer reviewed journals and has presented and published papers at a number of international conferences. RESEARCH GROUP Upon return to DIT in 2010 liam established the Development Technology in the Community (DTC) Research Group to formalise existing research within the School of Civil & Building Service Engineering in the area of Water and Sanitation Technology.
