Research interests

Main research interests are in the area of psychology and gaming, with a number of published papers and book chapters on the impact of gaming and the use of moral disengagement strategies in gaming and sports. Lavinia has a particular interest in female gaming and the experience of female gamers, with recent publications on female gaming and the experience of social support and online harassment within gaming. Lavinia was invited to present on online sexual violence and misogamy in gaming, at The Safer Internet Forum on behalf of the European Commission in 2019. Other research projects have explored social support, stress and wellbeing, with students, academics, athletes and social care workers. Along with a colleague secured funding to conduct national research on alternative care in Ireland, in conjunction with TUSLA. Other collaborative research projects have focused on teaching and learning and applied research in social care. Currently engaged in is a large scale study of problem gaming in students in Ireland, in conjunction with Professor Mark Griffiths (Nottingham Trent University).
