Professional Information
As a Senior Research Fellow in Technological University Dublin, I lead a team of engineers and scientists to deliver high-quality and impactful research projects in collaboration with industry. With over 15 years of experience in materials science, composites, adhesives, and failure analysis, I have developed a strong reputation for providing innovative solutions to multiple industrial partners.
My passion is to apply my technical and commercial skills to the advancement of engineering surface technology, especially in the areas of lightweight composite materials, structural adhesives, protective coatings, and surface treatments. I have successfully led and contributed to multiple projects across different sectors, such as automotive, medical device, energy, and aerospace, resulting in significant improvements in performance, efficiency, and sustainability. I also enjoy building and maintaining relationships with business and academic leaders from diverse backgrounds, and leveraging them for further opportunities and collaborations.
Research Interests
My research interests include:
- Use of composite materials for lightweighting applications (e.g. drones, space, aerospace & automotive).
- Automated manufacturing processes for composite materials (e.g. ATL - automated tape laying, AFP - automated fibre placement, filament winding, compression moulding, etc.).
- Application of surface treatments for improved corrosion protection and adhesive bonding.
- Fracture mechanics and tougnening mechanism of composite laminates and adhesive joints under mixed-mode, quasi-static, fatigue and high-rate loading.
- Leading edge protection (LEP) coatings of onshore/offshore wind turbine blades.
