Research Interests

Jim Roche teaches at the Dublin School of Architecture (DSA), DIT, Ireland. His architectural practice experience includes various award winning social housing and educational projects in Ireland. He has worked in Finland, the UK, Palestine, Cyprus and Turkey. His research interests include housing, environmental design, innovative technology, conservation, adaptive reuse, architecture and conflict and other ways of doing architecture. He was DIT Coordinator on the three year EU funded OIKONET Housing Research Programme. He teaches an elective entitled Cooperative Housing Systems at DSA. His recent publications include a co-written chapter entitled ‘Fit for renting – an investigation into space standards of Irish Housing’ for the book Renting in Ireland, 2014 and Designing and constructing for a sustainable future - community urban housing in timber: Projects by 4th year architecture students at DIT for the 1st International OIKONET Housing Conference 2014.
