Research interests

Working on a Smart Self-Care for Dementia project, we aim to involve people with dementia in designing solutions that support their independence and well-being. Our current focus is on developing a computerized solution in collaboration with individuals with dementia and the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland. This initiative seeks to create an intelligent user interface tailored specifically for those with dementia, integrating Human-Computer Interaction techniques, Sensors, an IoT & IoMT-based activity monitoring framework for the home, and Machine Learning models for human activity recognition. By placing individuals with dementia at the center of decision-making, we strive to enhance their quality of life and ensure their needs are met with innovative, user-friendly technology. Our project adheres to EU MDR, ISO 13485, and IP compliance standards. 

Previous work experience includes as an R&D project manager in Medtech industry for almost 8 years and as an R&D Manager at NTR Biosensors S.r.l., I lead a multi-tech team in developing an IOMT wearable biomechanics project that integrates biosensors such as Surface EMG , IMU, and pressure/force-sensors for medical and sports applications. I design and prototype a Class II & IP68 medical device that analyzes 3D motion gait analysis and partial weight bearing in lower limbs of orthopedic and neurodegenerative patients, as well as in golf and rugby sports for precise swing, body, and foot gait movements. I coordinate Clinical trails in various hospitals, clinics, and sports centers as well as with the CTO, COO, and various outsourcing collaborators, and ensure the compliance of the design with user needs and industry standards IP Classes, EU/Us MDR and ISO Standards.

I have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Brain-Computer Interfaces, and Bio-Medical Devices, and a Master's degree in Neuroscience & Biotechnology. I have also completed the BCI & NEUROTECHNOLOGY SPRING SCHOOL 2022 certification. I have over 5 years of experience in project management and scientific technology consulting in Digital health care, Telemedicine platforms for Clinicians for real time monitoring of patients using medtech IoMT-based wearables. I have developed and programmed an EEG, ECG, EMG (surface and single fibre electrodes) & ECOG cybernetic model for cognitive and neurosensory skills assessment and neural stimulation, and I have experience in in-vivo & and in-vitro electrophysiology, implantable medical devices, and brain-computer interfaces. I am passionate about innovating and improving health outcomes with cutting-edge technologies.
