Waqas is a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technological University Dublin, Blanchardstown. His 20 years of diverse background, including roles in industry and academia, have equipped him with extensive multidisciplinary experience. Before joining TU Dublin, he worked at Atlantic Technological University Sligo, Ireland, and the University of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Waqas has honed his skills in various engineering modules, student advising, module development, and executing scientific research projects. His primary research areas include damage mechanics of materials, biomaterials, porous implants, sustainable manufacturing, and design optimization of mechanical structures. He successfully managed multiple high-tech research projects, secured research funding of about €1.2M, and published 90 research publications in reputed journals and conferences. His current focus is on the cutting mechanics of biomaterials and developing porous metallic implants for biomedical applications.
