Personal profile

Waqas is a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Technological University Dublin. With an extensive 20-year background spanning industry and academia, he brings a wealth of multidisciplinary experience. Before coming to TU Dublin, he worked at Atlantic Technological University in Sligo, Ireland, and the University of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Waqas has developed his skills across various engineering modules, student advising, module development, and leading scientific research projects. His main research interests include damage mechanics of materials, biomaterials, porous implants, sustainable manufacturing, and the design optimization of mechanical structures. He has successfully led several high-tech research projects, secured approximately €1.2M in research funding, and authored 90 research papers published in reputable journals and conference proceedings. Dr Waqas brings a wealth of experience in diverse areas, showcasing their deep expertise in the following domains:

FEA/Modeling/Simulations

Damage mechanics of materials, polymers, and composites at macro and micro-scale. Cutting mechanics and simulation, including milling, drilling, turning, rolling, and impact analyses, and thermomechanical analysis 

Biomaterials & Biomedical devices 

Designed and developed porous bioimplants, fiber optic sensors (FOSs) for biomedical applications, machining-induced stress, and tribo-corrosion analysis

Sustainability
