Professional Information

Dr Deirdre McGowan is head of the discipline of Law at TU Dublin. She teaches Family Law and Law for Social Care Managers and is responsible for overall management of undergraduate and post-graduate law programmes at TU Dublin. 

Dr McGowan studied Law at University College Dublin (1987-1990) and the Law Society of Ireland, qualifying as a solicitor in 1994. She was a private client solicitor for more than 10 years and an adjudicator with the Residential Tenancies Board between 2014 and 2018. In addition, she volunteered with the Citizens Information Service and FLAC for more than 15 years. In 2010, she was awarded a John & Pat Hume Fellowship to pursue PhD research at Maynooth University, earning her PhD in 2015. Dr McGowan supervises PhDs in the areas of Gender and the Law and Family Law and prior to joining TU Dublin taught law at Maynooth University and Technological University of the Shannon.
