Research Interests
Christine Nangle’s research interests centre on auditing, professional scepticism, professional judgement, and the development of early-career auditors. Her work examines how professional scepticism develops over time and how it is shaped by individual, educational, technological, organisational, and socialisation factors within the audit environment.
Her doctoral (year 4 PhD candidate) research adopts a longitudinal perspective to examine the development of professional scepticism and sceptical judgement among junior auditors, with particular attention to professional identity, client-specific experience, mentoring, hybrid and remote working, autonomy, confidence to challenge, and the increasing use of artificial intelligence and audit technologies.
Her broader research interests include auditor education and training, professional socialisation, professional identity, audit quality, judgement and decision-making, the impact of technology on professional work, accounting education, and the transition from higher education into professional practice. She is particularly interested in research that bridges academic theory and professional practice and that can inform the development of effective education, training, mentoring, and workplace structures for future accounting and auditing professionals.
