Professional Information
Dr. Brendan K. O’Rourke works at Technological University Dublin, where he focuses on learning in the area of discourses of the economy, in particular examining strategy, enterprise, policy and public discourses of the economy. Graduating with a Masters in Economics from University College Cork, he gained experience in a wide range of business disciplines, and went on to earn his PhD on strategy and enterprise discourses. at Brunel University, London. Brendan co-founded the Discourse Analysis Group and Business, Society and Sustainability Research Centre and is founder member of DiscourseNet (discourseanalysis.net) the international association for discourse studies. Brendan has supervised five PhD projects to completion and has examined eight PhDs, including one at the University of Cambridge. He has served as an external examiner for programmes both at home and abroad. Brendan is an associate editor and editorial board member for the journal Humanities and Social Sciences Communications. His scholarly work has been widely published as chapters in edited volumes, encyclopaedia / handbook entries and in over 20 peer-reviewed academic journals such the Critical Discourse Studies, Politics, British Educational Research Journal and Review of Social Economy. On a policy and public discourse level, Brendan has contributed to number of podcasts, policy consultations, opinion pieces and interviews in national newspapers. Brendan’ work is driven by passionate curiosity in how public and organizational discourses can be made more inclusive, egalitarian and richer in a world where both as a specialists in our work and as citizens we need to evolve sustainable solutions to global challenges such as climate changes, inequality and threats to democracy.
