Research Interests

Alex Gibson (BSc Mgmt, M.B.S.) lectures in tourism and hotel marketing on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the College of Arts and Tourism, Dublin Institute of Technology and is a Visiting Professor at ESSEC Business School, France where he lectures on top-ranked MBA International Hospitality Management. His professional experience includes various marketing roles in the UK with Nabisco, Danone and Holiday Inn. As a consultant to industry Alex has worked with leading players such as Intercontinental Hotels and Accor. Alex has co-authored a text book ‘ Tourism and Hospitality Marketing in Ireland’ published by Gill and Macmillan. A regular columnist on marketing issues in both hotel trade and national media, he has been a judge at several prestigious Irish marketing awards including the Advertising Agency of the Year and Marketing Professional of the Year. Alex is a former President of the Irish Chapter of Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International ( HSMAI ) and has served in the European Board. He also presents The Persuaders - a weekly radio show and podcast on marketing issues, where he has interviewed top international experts on marketing issues. Accolades include HSMAI Lifetime Achievement Award, Marketing Educator of the Year and Business Podcaster of the Year. He is currently researching the impact of Augmented Reality technology on tourism destinations and suppliers
