Description

A Metricon Prism Spectrometer, specifically the Prism Coupler, measures the thickness and refractive index of thin films and bulk materials by using a laser and optical waveguiding techniques. It works by coupling light from a prism into a thin film, treating it as an optical waveguide, and then detecting the specific angles (mode angles) at which the light propagates within the film. These mode angles are then used to calculate the film's thickness and refractive index with high accuracy.
