Editing the Digital Landscape

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

This in-person workshop aims to introduce participants to practical techniques for improving the accessibility of library-created, digital resources (such as content on Content Management Systems, websites, and social media platforms) and to encourage them to consider how this might be applied to their own practice as a library professional.
The experiential workshop will focus on ways to improve the accessibility of library-created content such as LibGuides, social media posts and other forms of visual communication. Participants will explore this topic through micro-lectures, solo activities, and a group activity.
Through these activities, participants will learn to consider their professional practice in the context of widening accessibility of digital text and imagery.
Solo activities will offer an opportunity to reflect on their learning through the use of visual thinking practices. The group activity will allow collaboration between participants to collectively build their understanding of how to construct alt text for images.
At the end of the workshop each participant will leave with:
• An understanding of what accessible content is and how it can be made.
• Practice in writing accessible content.
• Practice in applying alt text to images.
