Summary In the rapidly evolving global economy, digital skills have become a decisive factor for sustainable economic development and innovation. The BG-DSSED examines how digital competencies influence productivity, competitiveness, and growth while supporting inclusive and environmentally responsible development. The initiative addresses a key challenge: unequal access to digital knowledge across Europe and partner countries limits the capacity to harness smart technologies, data-driven innovation, and sustainable solutions aligned with the UN9 SDGs (4, 8, 9, 10). By focusing on digital skills as an enabler of sustainability, the Action explores their role in strengthening economic resilience, reducing inequalities, and advancing knowledge based economies. The network will bring together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from multiple disciplines and regions - including strong participation from Inclusiveness Target Countries - to exchange knowledge, identify best practices, and co-create a collaborative platform for innovation. Special emphasis will be placed on how digital skills foster entrepreneurship, competitiveness, and job creation in emerging sectors, as well as on technological solutions for resource efficiency, environmental protection, and circular economy models. At the same time, the Action will prioritise equitable digital transformation, aiming to bridge urban - rural divides and enable disadvantaged groups to participate fully in digital economies. By combining comparative data analysis, case studies, and cross-national collaboration, the BG-DSSED will generate decision-ready policy recommendations, competency-based training frameworks, and innovation roadmaps for diverse national and European contexts. Ultimately, it will provide actionable insights into the role of digital skills in accelerating sustainable growth and position Europe as a leader in innovation-driven, inclusive, and green development.
